About the GM thing, it's a job, just like any other. You need qualifications and training and get paid at the end of the day. Minimum age-requirement of 18(?) and you need to be somewhat known in the industry.

The only thing I would add is that a GM is a customer service position. That means you should have excellent communication skills. Good luck.
