A Texas man has been arrested after a nine-year-old girl wrote to Santa Claus asking that a relative stop touching her and her sister.

Newspapers reported that a man from the town of Pharr was arrested on Friday and is in the Hidalgo County jail.

A criminal complaint says the girl turned the letter in at Cesar Chavez Elementary School. Authorities interviewed the girl after a school counsellor reported the letter.

The complaint says investigators believe the molestation occurred over a period of four years.

The man is charged with continuous sexual abuse of a young child and could face up to 99 years in prison if convicted.

Most times, people don't serve out the entire length of their sentence. I think I heard the average is a third.

so by giving them an extra 2-3rd that they wont serve alive would be a greater punishment for their act?

I think Ralath means most people get out early, for various reasons. If you increase the total sentence, the total time spent in jail will probably be longer.

And as much fun as lynch mobs are, we have this little guideline called "innocent until proven guilty" here in the US.

@ Hessah - our wonderful judicial system believes that after a certain amount of time (usually less than half of the time sentenced) the criminal deserves the right to ask for early parole.

These poor girls are going to live with this for the rest of their lives.

Usually its like 99 years then after 30 or 40, he can see about getting a release, kind of like an appeal.
