Ups: You have a challenge while playing fiesta because for me, the archer class is by far the toughest to lvl. That may not seem like much lol

, Anyways, another important up(for me atleast) is KQs It's EXTREMELY satisfying being an archer in KQs. You're a vital member of the party.
Downs: Soloing is tough no matter what your build is. Many archers complain of simply being a mage with a lot less dmg and a bit more def. Your evasion doesn't really seem to count for anything. You're not likely to be accepted into a good AoE party at higher lvls either....
Fun things about being an archer: I don't know why, but I have A LOT more fun playing with my archer than while playing with any other class....It just feels so satsfying to see numbers pouring out of the enemy's head...and it's also satisfying to see the monste fall back and die when the arrow hits it..lol now I'm just being stupid...but play the class and you'll see how satisfying it is ;D.
Boring Things: Grinding....but that's boring for everyone :P. It's boring to have to solo your way through the lvls as you'll be restricted to killing mobs that you can kill with comfort....not like with clerics..where you can take on red mobs.
The build for an archer that wants to mainly solo, but is able to take decent aggro: 25 SPR, rest STR or pure STR. Pure DEX is a good option too. Just remember you'll have more DPS with a bow if you go pure STR, and you'll have to take a crossbow if you go pure DEX. For 25 SPR, rest STR, if you rush the 25 SPR first , and then start adding STR, you'll have to take a crossbow till lvl 40 where your STR kicks in and your bow DPS becomes better. Wondering why STR matters?

I've calculated the modifier you should multiply your damage to find your DPS(Damage Per Second).
Aspd only modifier for bows: 0.909
Aspd only modifier for xbows: 0.714
Modifier already factoring NPC crit rates:
Bow: 0.945
Crossbow: 0.757
Multiply everything by 60 if you want to find the damage you'll do over a minute.
Now, luckily, I'm by the smith just as I write this post, so I'll consider.. huh.. level 30 weapons and do the damage calculations.
Close Bow average damage: 75
Close Crossbow average damage: 140
Bow DPS (damage per second): 70.85
CrossbowBow DPS (damage per second): 105.98
Crossbow winning so far, okay. I don't know how def would actually interfere with the total damage, but as far as the crossbow out-damages bow by aproximately 30% DPS, let's consider your build.
Let's say you went STR all the way to level 30. You got 35 str. considering the increase in DPS by the STR, we have:
Bow DPS increase: 31.815
Crossbow DPS increase: 26.495
Total damage:
Bow: 70.85*(def reduction) + 31.815
Crossbow: 105.98*(def reduction) + 26.495
Considering a monster can reduce 30% of your damage:
Bow: 49.595 + 31.815 = 81.41
Crossbow: 74.186 + 26.495 = 100.68
Now let's say you went full SPR, you're level 30 and have 35 SPR, which gives you a crit rate of 25*(0.2)+10*(0.1) = 7%
The post is already too long, so I won't detail everything again. In the end we get:
Bow: 1.008*70.85*0.7 = 49.991
Crossbow: 0.806*105.98*0.7 = 59.793
Even though crossbows damage seem to grow more, bows damage also increases, and since the bow multiplier is higher, I guess the devs would make something along the lines of the progression being constant in %.
The only problem is that monsters defense do(or at least I think they do) get higher as you change leveling locations.
Crossbows also is more likely to have higher wasted DPS. face it like this: a monster has 10 HP left. a bow hits for 15, an Crossbow hits for 30, might not seem too much, but it builds up over prolonged periods of leveling.
Oh snap, just realized I forgot to factor base STR. xD
Their 'base damage'(the reduced by defense one) difference wouldn't be so big then. As far as I can recall, my archer on level 30 has about 100str (considering gear, idk), so maybe their damage could be more comparable.. err... maybe I'll re-do the calculations later considering base STR, but I guess you all see where I'm getting with this.^^

The above was posted by Sven- in the official forums and was put in the archer guide written by MissusDolly. I take no credit whatsoever for these calculations.
