Need help in Spain Email hacks

I just got an email from one of my uncles with the "OMG I'm in Spain, I've lost my wallet, transfer money to me NOW!" kind of emails.

They've obviously been hacked.

Is there anything they can do about it?

How is someone suppose to prevent this email hack?

They need to go to their email and simply prompt for a password change. Then they need to go in and change their security info. If they've locked them out, they need to contact customer support asap (either support form or call) and have them help out from there.

It's becoming so common, I've been trying to find out how people got hacked so I can prevent it myself.

Did you open it with your hotmail account? if you start sending me emails asking for money I'll let you know LOL

Mum got paranoid so I changed the password for her email.
