Mind blown

Every week at work I am always amazed at the idiots and lazy people I happen to talk to and will never figure out how some people can still run their business properly or are still employed...

For example early last month, I got an email from this lady from some other business asking for some particular documents from me. Her enquiry was poor, absolutely no information was provided and I wasn't even sure if she was even supposed to ask us. So in the end I called her and resolved the issue for her because she had no idea what she was doing (at least this issue was sort of related to our company).

So after I emailed her the documents, she replies (without any thanks) with a form for me to fill in. But this form was not even related to our company - I had to tell her what type of people she should be sending the form to. I don't even work for your company and I'm teaching you how to do your job.

I haven't heard from her since, but just yesterday I got an email from her again saying "Hi, can you please tell me who would be the best to send the form to". She didn't even bother attaching the form! For all she knows, I could have completely forgotten about her and not know what form she's talking about.

Her work title is "data entry production assistant" which I assume means that she is not an expertise in the field we work in, but really???? How much common sense do you need to lack to not know what to do with the form?? She must be COMPLETELY clueless and I bet you she doesn't even know what her company does, or even read the form, which is stupid. How do these people even stay employed?

I even felt like an idiot trying to answer her. "Maybe the suppliers need to fill in this 'Supplier form'." It's exactly that!! In the end I just did what my friend suggested and said something like "I'm confused about your question, call me if you want to discuss". Besides I don't want to offer advice via email for a business we're not even related to at all.

And then we also get people who demand for work to be done for them. Yes, we are a not-for-profit service organisation and we try to help when we can, but you do realise that the letter templates you need to write up for your own business will actually allow you to sell your products to your customers and make you money?? The thing that bothers me most is that these kind of requests sometimes come from BIG companies. So how about you do pull your own weight rather than expect us do to the work for you.

Really... throughout school and uni, I've been living in such a small world... the people you interact with at work is an eye opener sometimes.

?????????????????????????

Why did you not include that in your first email? Do you think I'm telepathic....

And you guys must have a REALLY bad system in place if you don't even know the contact details of people your suppliers... helloooo, you are buying FOOD from these people that can potentially cause health hazards... wouldn't you want to know who they are???

Tell me about it...

My teacher friend said "I have to go to school and deal with little idiots, you guys don't!" And I was like we deal with BIG idiots, I think that tops your little idiots. (Well her school is actually not that bad, she's just complaining.)

We actually deal with teachers, and we CONSTANTLY get emails from teachers that can't spell! Recieved..... hello! You mean RECEIVED? And you're teaching our next generation?!

My colleague always says "I fear for our future" when we meet a teacher like that.

I suppose we're now experiencing these "futures" floating around in our real world.

Lots of people actually don't pay attention to detail and READ which is the cause of a lot of their problem and it really bugs me.

I'm living with one btw. I'm not saying these people are useless but if only they would read things properly, it'll cause less hassle in their lives.

A colleague just said "Can you show me how to copy the files from the FTP site to our server?"

IT'S LIKE HOW YOU COPY AND PASTE ANY OTHER FILES!

Why do they make it sound like it's such a scary thing to do!

Good thing is we have a new girl that's more computer literate, so I'm gonna show her what to do.

LOOOOOOL

My teacher friend tells me some really absurd stories about her students too. Some are really stupid - they're like 16 or so, and the plagiarised wikipedia articles in their homework but they don't even bother (or know) to hide it. A certain paragraph would be in completely different text/colour to the rest of the document.. it's like.. wow... aren't you old enough to realise plagiarism is wrong and that you should at least try to hide it if you do it???

But yeah, I was telling her how it only takes one bad call from an idiot at work to get me really aggravated. She said the same thing about the students but it's easier to get over them because they're just kids and they're still "learning", but these big idiots have no excuses...

I know someone that has done that in their uni project... it was an individual assignment, but a group of them got together and decided that everyone answer some of the questions, and they'll share the answers to make up the individual assignment.

So technically all the answers should be the same.... one guy got a decent mark and the other got a much crappier mark. It turns out that the guy with the crappier mark just copy and pasted and didn't bother formatting the document as a whole. My theory is that no doubt the lecturer would've just skimmed the assignment, and decide that this gets more mark coz it's more well presented than the one with all different fonts and paragraph spacing.

That reminds me of an essay my friend wrote all the way back in 8th grade. We had to write an essay on something about Venezuela for our geography class, and we all knew the teacher was someone who corrected your essay based on length. This is how my friend wrote his essay:

In Venezuela, the sky is blue and the grass is green. The cows are white with black spots. The air is fresh in the fresh areas. Venezuela has a capital city. It also has a population of humans.

You get the picture right? And I don't suppose I have to tell you he got an A-.

I've heard some insane stories from my college english teachers. Teenagers act so smug and like this crap doesn't even matter... it does you no benefit. Here in the US, in college, they can take action against you and it can go as far as getting you kicked out of the school. And if it was for a scholarship, or an award, they can take legal action against you. My English101 teacher told us a story about a student that did that at the university he taught at. He said since this was a community college and a first year class, it'd slide. But beyond that, and at a university, your ass is grass.
