Sarah Malone, who works for Kavelle Florist in Coogee, says it's the snowball effect in the office. When Valentine's Day falls on a weekday, that makes it more an element of office intrigue than a display of spousal affection.
''It's emotional blackmail - one girl gets sent flowers to the office, the girl next to her calls her boyfriend to complain she didn't get flowers, then he sends them to her and so on,'' she said.
''Valentine's Day is all about making her the envy of the office,'' said the head of Roses Only, James Stevens.
