wtf
Okay so i was training and i wanted to see how much dmg my lvl 1 spells would do so i switched to them and learned that it does the same dmg..
Okay so i'm lvl 19. Currently +19spr going for 25spr rest int.
When i attack a mara with my 4lvl 1 spells it kills it in the same amount of time as when i use my lvl1 magic missle and my 3 lvl 3 fire, ice, and thunder. how is that possible?
firebolt 1 does 33~41 additional dmg while firebolt 3 does 146~182additional dmg. When i use my lvl 1 skills all it takes is an extra magic missle.
someone explain>.>

There is usually very little difference in terms of damage with the first set of spells. However, you'll notice a much larger difference with the second set.
This is why level 1 spells are recommended, since the damage difference is so insignificant that it truly is better to use level 1.

It's a shame that we can't use certain spells above the first level but eventually, it doesn't make much of a difference. The only two spells you should never use above their first level are Fire Bolt and Magic Missile. Everything else can be used above the first level. Although, I do find it incredibly humorous that Magic Missile [01] does almost as much damage as my Magic Blast [03] (or maybe it was [02]?) that has it's damage fully empowered.

Here is what I would/have empowered:
5 points into cool down on Magic Missile. (1)
5 points into cool down on Frost Nova. (3)
5 points into cool down on Inferno. (5)
10 points into cool down/damage on Fire Ball. (4)
10 points into cool down/damage on Magic Blast. (2)
5 points into duration on Mind Drain. (7)
(Optional?)
5 points into duration on Stifle. (6)
I'm not too sure about Stifle because I haven't been motivated enough to get to that level but it seems worth it if you intend on PvPing a lot. I had a friend of mine cast it on me and it took me forever and a day just to cast Magic Blast so that would be very helpful against clerics and maybe even fighters. Definitely a pain in the ass to other mages.
You won't be able to empower all of that until about level 91 but I've gone ahead and put a number beside each one to show which ones I believe should be empowered first. Good luck.

No, I would strongly advise against empowering the damage of any of your AoE spells. Inferno's damage can't be empowered anyways but if you try and empower the damage on Frost Nova, you'll be wasting five points. I tried it once to test it out and there was almost no visible change in damage. And don't bother empowering Magic Burst. You get a fourth AoE spell at level 120 or around there that you'll probably need to save five points for.

Yes. Empowering anything else is pointless. I would not recommend empowering the cool down on Fire Bolt or anything else about Fire Bolt. There are a lot of new spells that still haven't been released yet and who knows what you'll need to empower?
