I really think that race don't play a big role into choosing your class. Every race start out with the same stats, at least the cats and slyphs do.

I've notice that the game has a bit of a Guildwar feel to it. Like doing a group quest. The quest giver ported us, but really same map, and everyone else was gone except our party members. Once we were done it took us back.
