I definitely give China (and the other asian countries) kudos on the discipline and pride they take in the education they receive and the dedication they bestow in their kids. Prolly why China's quickly surpassing the US. And yet many of us sit back and joke about the asian nerd stereotype x.x
I blame all of this "new age" parenting---- only giving your kids organic food and surrounding them with organic products out of fear they'll get sick or mutate, not letting them get vaccinated, encouraging self expression even if it means destroying the house and not listening to a word people said. Then neglecting to properly punish the kid.
I know a mom like that. She's the mom of one of my nephew's friend. She spoils her kid and never punishes him and he's grown to be quite the little jerk. She will call us and tell us he wants to come over. When my mom declines and says its too late, a bad time, etc, she starts to say stuff like "Yeah I tried to tell him no but he won't listen, he just keeps screaming and crying." My dad told her to just spank him next time he acts like that. She eventually brought him over for my dad to lecture him lol. It ended with the kid saying that if my dad ever spoke to him again, he'd run away. Little brats only 10.
