You might want to consider getting antivirus. AVG, Avast, NOD32, or Kaspersky are all good. NOD32 and Kaspersky you have to pay for.
From personal experience, Kaspersky is very good, but it takes a bit of memory to work with. But that doesn't matter unless you have a 2005 or older computer with only 1GB of RAM or something.
Otherwise, AVG works. Not too experienced with Avast, but I hear it doesn't have heuristic protection in the free version, so it doesn't sound worth it unless you get the paid version. The only problem with AVG is since it's free, it doesn't have rootkit protection.
