As a mage, you have the lowest defence of all class (at least to start off with anyway)...
Some early level (levle 1-15ish..) tips are:
1. Don't fight things that are to many levels above you.
2. Always get the latest armour you can find/afford
3. Kite (Hit, run, hit, run)
4. Don't sting on stones...
5. If you feel like you're losing the fight, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
You just have to be extra careful, but you won't die as quickly later on...
