Generally speaking, a cable connection is faster than a wireless connection, especially if you are still on an A/B/G wireless network.
I know I can reach peak download speeds of 10 mb/s certain periods of the day at school, as I completed a 1.2 GB download with an ethernet cable connection in roughly 3 minutes. On wireless, with the router outside my door, my download speed drops to only peak at 1 mb/s.
