If there isn't a universal code of what is wrong and what is right, then atrocities can occur in the name of God/ideas/feelings simply because people feel or believe a different way. And these horrible deeds are justified by the group that commits them based on believe, no reason or logic or thought. Reason is universal. Reason and logic are definite. Atrocities like the Inquisition, or the Holocaust would not have occurred if people didn't act on believes or emotions.
