You can not equip a lev 20+ item untill you have passed the job change quest.

Trip (hammer) and bleed (mace) are the damage dealing skills. Do not put skill points into these as they are not of much value. The same is true for mighty chop (mace) and I dont remember (hammer) at lev 95.

Dont buy from the blacksmith, any green you may buy or drop will be better.
