End becomes rather useless at higher levels because mages don't get block rate since they don't equip shields. A bit of END may seem to benefit at first, but that stays at the lower levels. Unless you go FULL END, you probably won't notice the difference at all. But I don't know many mages that go full END, full INT or 25 SPR/Rest INT builds are more favoured.
Pretty much, you're gonna die a lot either way. We usually stock up END gears, as I think END stats in gears benefits the same way as stat points for mages (someone correct me on this if I'm wrong). Even if I'm wrong though, I think END stats in gears benefits mages more than SPR/INT stats in gears, that's why people put in SPR/INT in their build and just get END gears to compensate.
END gears are great, but to be honest, my mage is 7x and I still die alot anyway. Only way to get real tough is to get enhance armours, which involves lots of SC $$. Scrolls also help alot.
Besides, you get crit from SPR stat points. You do not get crit from SPR gears.

We keep magic missile and fire bolt at level 1 because of our lack of skills at the beginning. If you empower magic missile CD, the CD is uh.. 1.3 sec? I forgot, might need to check the Wiki for that. But magic missile is our bread and butter most of the time, since we do not have any other skills to "spam". Same with fire bolt. Level 1 fire bolt is only 4 seconds, but level 2 and up is 15 seconds. That's a lot of waiting.
However, at higher levels, you'll get more skills and it's not so much of an issue then. Doesn't hurt to save the money earlier in levels, then buy them later when you reckon you have enough skills to spam.
