Well, back in my day . . .

We had to get up before the sun (no clocks that long ago) feed the chickens, gather eggs, milk the cows and slaughter the pig just to make breakfast. Then we had to walk 5 miles to school, uphill in the snow. Got to school and had to carry in 2 5-lb. buckets of coal for the stove. Study study study and write on pieces of slate with sticks that we charred in the fire. Eat cold biscuit and cold bacon for lunch from our tin buckets. Walk 5 miles back home, uphill in the snow. Feed all the livestock and harvest the vegetable garden to prepare vegetable soup for supper. Chop enough firewood to keep the fire going all night. And back to bed as the sun went down (no lights so after dark not much left for a kid to do )

(LOL) Yeah, my days were pretty much catch a bus at 7:15 - school 8:00 - 3:00 - bus home by 3:30
