Whew, heated debate. Let's cut the hatin'! So from what I gathered..
The Problem - Favouritism
An issue that cannot be completely prevented. Some people see it, some cannot. Those who can see it, cannot always pinpoint the favouritism because we can hide it well, but those who can't see it, is demanding for concrete evidence.
The Factors
Factors that contribute to the rise of favouritism:
- The community taking part in voting.
- Entries have not been made "as anonymous as possible".
- The same people have been entering the contests, hence the "same" people seem to win, giving rise favouritism.
The Big Question - The SOLUTION?- Mods/admins decide, so the people cannot vote for it?
- Entries that are entered must have censored names and URL must contain no evidence of the contestant's name. This should be the contestant's responsibility.
- People who have won once, may not enter again the next contest to prevent winning over and over. However, they get to choose the next theme (as usual).
Disclaimer
Favouritism will
still occur!!

Serious business time.
For mods/admins deciding, it seems to be the only solution to counter "the community voting makes favouritism" thing. But, I know oh, how well, it's gonna turn out. So it's not gonna happen.
I agree that entries could be kept anonymous by censoring names/making sure URL doesn't have names, but that should be the contestant's entry. Since in the past SOTW/SSOTWs, entries have not been made anonymous, this is actually the first time.
We could give that a go. We could make that as a requirement for entries, but it certainly should not be Loveless' job.
People who have won once cannot enter the next to win again.. well, we could do that. But sometimes SSOTW gets little to no entries, so stopping one member from entering would really have SSOTW lacking.. perhaps. We could try this for a few SSOTWs and see how it goes.
My thoughts.
