Partitioning

Just asking in case someone might be in the know.


I'm going to be shortly reformatting my laptop and reinstalling Vista. Stupid Mass Storage Controller decided to disappear

Anyway, I noticed in previous installations that during setup it asked me to decide on a certain amount of GB, I'm assuming this is to decide how big it should make the partition that Vista would install into. My questions are

*is the default Windows disk-management utility good enough for the task? Should I get some other software?
*How big should I set the first partition?
*Should I make more than two partitions?
*After installing, should I immediately partition the disk and then install programs? Not quite sure how it works.

EDIT: going to sleep now. I'll just go ahead and format if I don't know better by morning.
