Ah. I think you just might enjoy the irreverence it treats that particular subject, then. Piety doesn't even enter into the picture. In fact, the whole Jesus thing is just the play-within-a-play, which is sort of secondary to the movie itself. It's about the value of theatre and all of its absurdities and lampoons the "controversy" that some shows garner. The play that's being produced in the movie just has the most outlandish things that string it together. I mean, hell, the guy writes a sequel to Hamlet. He thought it was too depressing. So...he uses a TIME MACHINE to revive all of the dead characters. Then Jesus shows up, Albert Einstein has a cameo, there are lightsaber duels...but we don't even really see the play in all it's glory. We get bits and pieces of it. It's just WILD, man.
