I've set my combo to spam my skills. I currently have 4 elemental skills that I can use. Those, of course, hit for a lot more than your default. All classes require int to up their skill damage and str if they want to increase their default hits.
I can usually kill a mob before my whole sequences finishes. Also, I have a pet with me to help with the damage... and the recent pet I captured can heal me as well.
