I have a confession to make. I'm a 70 year old hermaphrodite named Billie.
Now that the joke is out of the way:
A) It wasn't very bright to purport himself as a girl. These things do tend to get out in a spectacular way, such as this.
B) I don't understand the reason to do so in the first place. I haven't really talked it over with him. I mean, if he were someone that identifies as a woman (transgender), then why would he ever tell someone that he's actually a guy?
C) I think it would have been better all the way 'round if he had just been honest from the outset or stayed "in character" with everyone. It IS a betrayal of trust. Why go through the charade and then break it to some people, unless it was just a big joke?
