That isn't off-topic at all and actually strikes to the very heart of this matter (and many other matters). It appears many people in this thread would prefer if we lived in a more facist-leaning society where our freedoms are curtailed "for our own good". I don't need the government to be my nanny, thankyouverymuch.

Okay, that it too ridiculous to even debate. You cannot have total freedom. Society has to have rules and people to govern those rules. You call it curtailing, others call it protection, others call it restrictions, others call it law, call it what you want, but total freedom would lead to total destruction.
