A bit late here but to make a note: the problem got resolved and I did make it in time for event, though event ultimately got canceled by idiots. :P
although it required me to reinstall TWO times, and the only way it started working again was when I downloaded with the original old file I still had lying around. Once install was done, autoupdater downloaded all the patches up to the current one, and there we go, works again.
