Yeah, I did that too and waited a while, I didn't really see any changes in my status till I saw my friend log in as my ex-hubby and "Your spouse refused to get a divorce." in my System ... again I wanna say box?
Because of the refusal, I tried again and that's how I wasted 1.6g.

But I'm not really sure what you should do about it.
If you know anyone that shares accounts with them, you should talk to them maybe? D:

And you know for sure when you're divorced when a bunch of things come up in your system ... err, box like:
Power of Love skill has been removed.
Marriage Status has been removed.
