Ah, that was one of the few sitcoms I could stand to sit through. Probably because in my younger days, I was an Alan, then figured out how to be a Charlie.
Also, I've found (purely ancedotally through personal experience, don't take this as an axiom) that people who are models/actors do tend to be a bit shy about their actual selves. That's why they bury themselves in another personality for their work.
