I've actually used a good deal of HP stones while being a cleric because if the mage is tanking then its necessary because the mage is getting hit so much that you need to constantly heal them and don't have enough time to heal yourself. And because of the range of most mage skills, they can't AOE everyone even at the higher levels(depends on how many enemies you are trying to kill at the same time) so to actually do your job as a cleric you actually do need to use a lot of HP stones suprisingly.

I guess my point is(speaking as a cleric) why can't mages specifically use stones when necessary or at least most of the time. When I party with those kinds of mages then I think they are the best ones out there because they can handle themselves when necessary and don't need to completely rely on the cleric to take care of them. Of course like I said there may be points where the cleric has to heal the mage constantly but sometimes depending on the enemies that might not be enough and the mage might have to use a pot or stone to help out a bit.
