It's lvl.
And sp stones cost less than hp stones. -.-
Which means that clerics gotta spend less again ! xD

I been doing this for ages and eventually decided to not have stones... Pots seem to be able to carry my mage well enough i mean if i get hit i heal straight away retreat a bit and what not. I mean i have 5 of each stone for emergencies but that is all.
And to answer your question I think its just level that puts the price up.

Atleast for me pots take time to work xD
like 2 secs till it does -.- in what i usually die.
+ stones = like 80% of your sp/hp whatever lvl you are.
and pots will just stay their own thing, like for warriors the hp pots are so useless which i found out. like you heal 200hp wif lvl 1 pots. which is so low after on xD.
+ Another GOOD thing about stones you CAN use sp and hp same time ! xD while wif pots you can use just 1 !
+ thought i reccomend being on full stones, and lots of pots. because sometimes like on bosses or so you may need both
2x faster healing :P
