Yep. She was a mess with the drugs. Compare an early album, say something from her Columbia days with Lady in Satin. The pure, raw emotion in her voice on the tunes on Lady in Satin is just heart-wrenching. You can almost hear that she knows this will be one of her last albums. Her voice is just wrecked from the booze and drugs...but its compelling nonetheless.
