Usually doing shift+z in town makes me go smooth if im looking for a npc. but if i do it for maybe a minute and go back to non hiding then i go smoother as well... thats how i counter lag in towns.

ive had computer problems since cbt1, shift z is my life basically
i hav a 10 year old comp and i need a new one, ive upgraded the hard drive for memory, the ram, and the graphics card for fiesta
i think u should be able to do shiftz in a monster area too, thew reply to trying is "Please try again in a few minutes"
i still get lag from the cities in character hide tho
edit:roumen works for character hide so u could fight the slimes but you would probably lag even more than regular mode because the monsters that die dont disapear, if u stay in character hide in roumen for like 30 minutes and walk to the slimes there are usually 400+
