Avatar pics
I took a screeny in fiesta, and I wanted to crop it and put a small bit of it as my avatar. I used MS Paint to do that, but I couldn't do it because it had an invalid extension (.bmp), so I changed it to .jpg but now it says "The BMP image has an incorrect extension). So what do I do?
Please do not laugh at my noobiness. |
We wouldn't laugh at your noobiness!
You can try save it as JPG to have it smaller. OR! You can upload it on another image hosting site (e.g. imageshack) and then use the direct link to the image instead. If you want you can upload your screenshot on imageshack, give me the link, and I can crop it for you. Cos if you do it in Paint and saving it as JPG will make it lose its quality. I can do it on Photoshop for you if you will tell me which part you want to be cropped. |
Well, here it is...I just want the character's face...lol

No problem.
You can quote me to get the links to the images, or you can just right click my pic and go Copy Link Location if you are using Firefox. xD Edit: oops nevermind I see you got it. xDD |
@ Blaaaahs, what function in Photoshop makes the thin black border?
I have PS Elements 6 and I have yet to find that function so I have tried making a 2nd layer slightly larger to place behind my image, but it never looks right and I just delete and move on.. |

If you right click the Brush icon on your tool bar, you'll see a Pencil icon. Select that, then have the brush size down to 1 pixel (well this can vary depending how thick you want it to be). Then I just go to the edges of the picture and draw it on the sides. You can try straight lines by click and holding the mouse down, then hold shift, and drag your mouse vertically or horizontally depending which way you wanna go. I also zoom in when I do this sometimes, it makes it easier for me to find the edge. |
Layer -> Layer style -> Stroke -> Choose your color, thickness and position for the border (inside/outside/centre on the canvas).
