I have no idea if you can run the game in window mode. Try pressing Alt + Enter or Ctrl + F.

As for KQ, well here's a nice guide from our FiestaWiki:

you can run the game in window mode. i can't remember exactly where but it's in graphic setting. there's a lot of options there i think, was gonna try to log on to tell you exactly where it was on teh page but maintenance

Bottom right, "Option/Cancel" (ESC key). Go to "Graphic Settings" and just click on the little window mode button. You can also change the resolution and graphic quality.

you might needa restart...but another way to get into window mode that i used to do in CB1 was leave it on, then windows will log you out and when you log back in its in a window =]. but this only works if you have windows xp i think. but now they have a real windows mode so taht works too xD

I don't need windowed mode because you can just hit the start button in between ctr and alt and that will bring up the start menu.

If your window mode is still in full screen, is it in a actual window? If it is then its just a resolution problem.
