What exactly is fame used for? DO you need certain amounts of fame to do certain tasks, such as buying items?

Fame is used to buy learning scrolls and alchemy stones for the composition/decomposition production skills. Item Merchant Nina sells items for Fame in Elderine.

You use for fame to buy alchemy stones, then sell them to me. Spirit_of_Water can sometimes be found sitting close to Nina. :D
