question about connecting to Internet
So on impulse I bought a new computer online and now I need to figure out how to connect that and my now sisters computer to the Internet. We have cable that is connected to a router. I'm going to be gaming so I need the best connection. Can I just hook up my desktop to my phone line? Or does it have to be connected to the router? If so I can move the stuff to my room then ill need to get my sister Internet. I know there's a usb dongle you can buy that let's a desktop connect to wifi, does anybody know how reliable those are? The most bandwidth she'd be using would come from streaming youtube videos.

Just connect it to the router. You don't have to have a wireless card to connect to a router. Just need an ethernet cord. There should be about 5-6ish in the back of the router for multiple cords.

We're in separate rooms though.

Then I suggest a long ethernet cord or a wireless card xP Thats how I see people doing it.

Yeah i got a fairly cheap (price wise) usb dongle so hopefully that will suffice for her. Can't wait to have my own comp!

I don't understand what you're trying to do, but you can't just put a phone line into your computer, you have to go through a modem/router.
So can you get the router in your room so you have direct cable connection to your computer? I've got one of these "dongle" thing for my laptop (coz the in-build Wifi was next to useless). And it worked fine enough for me. As long as your sister doesn't complain then it's fine =D |
Yep, I got that little dongle things, I was just worrying it would be slow but the one I ordered had good reviews.
