Dumb site

https://www.michaelhill.com/default.aspx

Gotta install something to view their website?!

So much trouble I rather not view it!

Yeah someone went fancy on their website design o: It didn't make me do anything, but yeah. Very flashy.

Hessah 07-29-2011 12:24 AM

Did you install it?

Or maybe you've already got that silverlight thing installed..?

Yosei 07-29-2011 01:21 AM

Oh yeah, I've got that. I think my new computer came with it...

Silverlight is basically Microsoft's answer to Flash. You can do some really cool things with it. I usually used it to stream video when I needed to stream it. It isn't something just for this site.

Hessah 07-29-2011 02:49 AM

This is the first site that I've seen that requires silverlight.. unless I've already got it at home and I have no idea about xD

but shouldn't a good site use something that generally everyone can view straight away?

Hraesvelg 07-29-2011 03:32 AM

Eh, it's just a plugin, like Flash. It's nearly impossible these days to do anything without having a Flash plugin.

At any rate, they should have a non-plugin based site with reduced functionality for those that choose not to run it. I had so many fights with clients over that.

Hessah 07-29-2011 03:47 AM

That your client didn't want a html alternative?

Hraesvelg 07-29-2011 03:54 AM

Yeah. No one wants legacy code sitting around. Lots of people are so disconnected from actual users. "What do you MEAN people aren't using the latest and greatest browsers and plugins?"

Hessah 07-29-2011 03:57 AM

LOL we're the opposite.. my boss hears about all these new fangle dangle flashy stuff and wants it for our website.. and I had to reel them back and say.. no.. our clientele would probably have the oldest version of anything... it won't load on their computer...
