looking for a good laptop. Halp?
So my mom's volunteered to buy me a laptop (forever spoiled!) and I'm on newegg looking but I can't decide. I know some about computers, but not a lot and I wanted to make sure I have a decent PC.
What I'd use it for: Interwebs! Photoshop Gaming (Note: I do not NEED the highest quality of graphic settings. I've been playing lowest for years and it doesn't bug me) Why laptop? I go to school, I'm away from home most of the time at different locations. If I got a desktop, I'd neglect it. So please don't tell me to get a desktop. My friends keep telling me that over and over despite the fact I tell the tards over and over that I'm hardly ever home :hulksmash: I've been told to look out for: CPU type (I've been told the more GHz the better, but also the opposite...) So I've just been going to a CPU comparison site. Also been told to look for dedicated graphics instead of integrated. I can't decide @_@ Halp. I have it so far narrowed to these two: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834215120 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834246131 |
Budget maximum?
|
Was aiming for $800 max, maybe up to 900. My mom hasn't told me a limit but I don't want to freak her out. She's kind of old fashioned and is one of those "We used to pay 50 cents for a tank of gas when I was younger!" so I think if I came to her with a $1,000 laptop she'd freak some. I already told her it'd prolly be 700-800ish.

That second one isn't bad. Weird max screen resolution, though. I mean, unless you're really paying attention I doubt you'll notice it isn't full 1080, so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

IdeaPad Y560p
Basically a step up in terms of processor power, a downsize in screen size, and a fairly standard screen resolution. RAM and hard drive size is reduced, but these are fairly minor tradeoffs for a better processor. The clock speeds are faster on the Sandy Bridge i5 you linked, but the i7 is a quad core. The graphics card is slightly better than the second laptop you linked. Downside to the quad core is that it can run hot. You will probably need a laptop cooler. I personally recommend a laptop cooler for anyone who uses a gaming laptop, but whether you get one or not is your decision. Also, you could look into the IdeaPad Y570. Features the newest i5 series processor and a high end graphics card. The 555 GT is a tiny bit slower than the 260 GTX, which is fairly strong graphics card. |
Nice finds Triumph o: Not sure why I didn't run into those.

Don't forget to hit up Slickdeals. Sometimes you can find coupon codes and the like that will knock some of the price off.

You guys have been a bit more helpful lol. My friends just bitch me out for wanting to get a laptop.

There are tradeoffs with a laptop, but I'm perfectly happy with mine. It's more like a portable desktop.
