Sound card problems.

Recently my comp stopped playing sounds out of absolutely anything. it's had a problem for a while where it would sometimes stop playing out of the left headphone, but it went away after about an hour of being off before. now it just wont play a thing.

I tried my friend's usb headset, and that seems to work though. so we're pretty sure it has to do with the sound card. does anyone know anything that might fix it?

I cant buy a new sound card, because im using an on-board one, and i dont have a port for it.

Hmm, can't be the sound card if you can hear sound through headphones. If that was the issue, you wouldn't hear anything at all.

If it's just the left speaker, my guess is that some contact came loose. Did you ever put any strain (ie. pull, left the speaker physically hanging) on the speaker wire?

Cant hear sound through the headphones, though, unless they're USB. Its just that that was a symptom of the issue long before it actually crapped out.

In regards to the speakers, no, but it's also a problem with my headphones. i know it's not an external problem, because several different output devices had the problem.

Hmm, I see. Try cracking open the case and arm yourself with a respirator and canned air, heh.

I had a similar problem where when using my headset all my sounds would stop, and I had to restart to relcaim it.
Try updating your drivers, that seemd to fix it for me xD
