USB Flash drive speed

I'm looking at getting a 16GB USB flash drive.. and I know that the read/write speed of these memory sticks are all different..

I had a mini USB that's really slow when I copy a file onto it, so I'm trying to avoid doing that again..

So should I be looking for a memory stick that has a higher write speed? What's considered decent?

I gathered that most memory sticks could read at about 30MB/s and that's pretty good..

Yeah, you could say that ~30 MB/s is the common average. Plus there are other factors that could limit the writing speed as well, like the processor being busy with something else.

But the write speed is often much slower than the read speed..

I've seen some going from about 4mb/s to 8mb/s.. (while read speed is still 30mb/s)

I wonder if it's coz I'm looking at those tiny flash drives that all the write speed seems so slow...

There was a small paragraph about a USB 3.0 being released today, which is supposed to read data at 80mb/s and write data at 60mb/s. lolss

USB 3.0? Haven't heard.

umm...when i copy files it goes slow when i close all background programs and everything running it goes fast. <- try that xD

Yeah I've heard about the 3.0 but.. That would also mean I'll need to get a whole new computer xD

Not really. Just a whole new motherboard, which would lead to a whole new processor, which could lead to incompatible RAM and GPUs... and so on...

;)

That sounds like a whole new computer minus a monitor and the mouse and keyboard to me.. xD

You could probably keep the case, too.
