Conductor of an Orchestra

I was just watching this concert/orchestra thing on DVD...

and i was thinking... When the Conductor is standing out the front keeping everyone in beat...

everyone else has their head down reading the score...

he looks like he's being ignored! no one looks at him!

i thought that looked kinda funny and he's probably useless LOL

LOL I'm sure they look at the conductor from the corner of the eye. It's like how you focus on something, but you can still kind see the movements of something from a distance.

LOL yeah i'm sure

but it just looked so funny how they seem like they dont pay much attention to the conductor

the leading violinist is on a lil stage by herself and she's doing the whole solo thing with her eyes closed LOL

<3 Joey!

I'll watch it once my holidays starts.

I'm going to watch all the concerts we have again and again and again, lol.

yay, something i can contribute to!

I played upright bass in a small ensemble last year and i watched the conductor when i wasn't playing since it was easier to just wait for him to call me in than it was to read someone else's music (although for a bassist, it's simple, just wait till you see a little bass clef pop back up again)

Yea it's pretty simple for a bass. But well in an orchestra, you're supposed to have memorized some parts of the piece so you can look up and stuff. But we usually look up only after we've played our part so we can wait for the conductor to call us in again later.
