Anti-Communist Cartoon.
You have to love how much they skew the facts... communism doesnt mean loss of freedom in return for loss of poverty; it simply means that the government owns the BUSINESSES. Many of the greatest communist leaders, such as Leon Trotsky, believed in communism mixed with democracy.
There's also the fact that unions are socialist ideals... |
Democracy is compatabile with socialism but it doesn't really jive with communism.
You are correct about communism not meaning loss of freedom for loss of poverty. So far, all of the truly communist systems have meant loss of freedoms for crushing, mind-blowing poverty. |
Can you blame American government? They were scared. They were effing scared that communism will make it's way to them.
As for communism being compatible with democracy, I've only got one thing to say: Heheheheh... :cheeky: Definitely not in Russia... |

I don't remember them calling it evil, but it is antithetical to most of the core American principles. That's not to say we haven't been chipping away at those principles and freedoms ourselves, but they did a decent job of laying out those principles in the film. Naturally, being a propaganda piece, they chose to ignore the flaws in our system and didn't bother to give any benefits to a communistic society, but what did you expect?
Not that I can think of any benefits of a communist society right off the bat that couldn't be had by a democratic socialist state/republic. |
I, personally, am a socialist. Still, it's vexing to see the propaganda spewed from both capitalists and communists. Or amusing... it could really be either-or.
|
It would be nice if everyone had a socialist bent. Unfortunately, it doesn't really fit in well with what humans actually ARE. I mean, sure, I'd love for humans to be able to fly, but that is contrary to our nature. A well-regulated capitalistic system harnesses the inherent greed of the race.

But then you also have class boundaries that prevent stuff from happening at times as well; it can be neigh impossible for someone to go from the ghetto to rockefellerville. Much easier to make those in rockefellerville come down to earth rather than pissing in a toilet made out of diamonds found in the moon than it is to help those who lose the ability to get a good education due to needing to work at home get the golden toilet.

Eh, in an absolute socialistic society, there really isn't any sort of motivation for people to make improvements to society. For the sake of their fellow man? Puh-lease. That wouldn't motivate me to get out of bed in the morning. Perhaps it would work for some people, but not for the vast majority of us.
I'm not going all Ayn Rand "Objectivist" here, mind you I think the American system, a hybrid of capitalism and socialism, is probably the best man-created system possible, aside from an absolutely benevolent dictatorship. And before someone jumps in and says there isn't anything socialistic about the American system needs to look around. Roads, libraries, some hospitals, the military, the postal service, municipal airports, police, fire departments...those are collectivist programs. |
But what about the far stronger economies harbored by socialist nations?
Also, this is one of my favorite examinations of socialism applied to modern day society. Short, funny, and sweet. 2 part thing, btw. Might get attacked since it's the daily show, but i dont see many flaws in it, so far... http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tu...syndrome-pt--1 http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/we...syndrome-pt--2 |
