Why textbooks so expensive?! :hulksmash:

My full textbook list isn't even out yet but I have two books that are listed at $200... =o=

Yeah, textbooks suck. Though I usually try to buy them online since its almost always cheaper. Even used like new are a whole lot cheaper and the textbooks are in great condition.

I buy them online too. Bigwords.com is nice because it aggregates prices.

But still. =o= Can't get the special stuff online. =o=

What I hate most is like Lab manuals/books that are made specifically for that class that you can only get from the school or local bookstores. They are always SO expensive.

My uni has a 2nd hand book shop...

but the problem is stupid lecturers change their edition EVERY YEAR so you can only get an older edition where you're 2 pages off (like pg 114 is now on pg 116) or buy new ones =.=

I'm not sure about you guys.. but our lecturers are often one of the authors of a textbook... so... there's a horrible conflict of interest there!

I haven't taken a class yet where the professor wrote the book. But yes, the changing of editions is so dumb. You can't find it used, meaning you have to pay full price. I haven't even looked up my books yet. Ugh its gonna be bad this semester.

One of my professors wrote one of my textbooks last year. =o= Had to get it from my campus bookstore. And after I got done with it, my campus bookstore paid about $9 for it (I think I bought for about $50) or I could find some other way to get rid of it.

I actually kept it (not that I'm planning on looking through it again LOL). I might end up donating it to Chegg or something like that.

I just starting looking up my books for next semester. With 2 of the books in my cart on amazon (Absolute Java 4th edition and Elementary Linear Algebra 2nd edition) I'm already up to about $160. Still have to get my Physics book, physics lab manual, and psychology book (which may be the same as the lab manual according to the bookstore website. THIS WOULD BE GREAT!). I'm probably looking at at least $300 in books maybe even $400. Taking these courses in the same semester may have been a bad idea X.X

If you can find another student like 1 semester behind, I'm sure it's better to sell it to them for like $25 than to sell it to the book shop for them to get double profit! (they probably sell it back out for $40!)

But yeah our uni might work slightly differently.. I think our professors wrote the textbook FOR the course.. rather than the course finding a textbook that would fit the course.. so all our textbooks has to be bought from our uni book shop...
