Jik

I've just been thinking about how you said "Nice" on that anti-weed study. It seems you don't approve of usage. Yet, you love the Beatles. They did LOTS and LOTS of drugs (and stuff much harder than weed). How do you reconcile that?

Also, I'm wondering, have you seen "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"? What are your thoughts? Fun campy romp or vile desecration? LOL

Jikanu 06-29-2009 12:39 AM

Never seen the sgt pepper movie, but from what i've heard it's more on the vile desecration side, as is anything that tries to do something as well as the beatles o.o

and i was just saying that it's nice that it's finally been proven so that people better know what they're getting into when they smoke it. o_o

And yeah, the beatles did drugs, but mostly stuff that didnt have adverse health effects directly from the drug (other than pot, of course). LSD, for example. as long as you dont jump out of your window or kill someone durring a bad trip, you're pretty much fine. And yeah, they did weed, but that doesnt mean i either A. approve of it because i listen to their music or B. Think that the quality of their music was any lower because of it. It's a personal choice on their side, and it's not my place to judge, or to be their moral police.

I wasnt saying i think anyone who smokes weed is a piece of shit or anything, and i dont believe that. i was just saying that we now know what it can cause, and that those who are tempted to take it can know the full side effects before taking it.

Decent answers? >.O

...Does your silence mean it's not? o.o

It's a matter of opinion. I just wanted yours and I got it.

My brother has always said, "The Beatles' best music came out when they were doing drugs."

Yeah, it came around durring the drug-induced period of time, but it doesnt effect the quality of the music, nor does it change the fact that most of it was probably from the fact that they were brilliant song writers.

So you're saying that the drugs didn't influence the songs? You think someone sober would have written "We all live in a yellow submarine" or "I am the Walrus" or "Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting thorough my open mind possessing and caressing me "?

Drugs had an influence, but not as much as their songwriting capabilities. Deffinitely in Yellow Submarine and I Am the Walrus, but in Across the Universe, i think it was more influenced by their time meditating and stuff than the drugs. Across the Universe is more poetic than weird. the "pools of sorrow, waves of joy" line seems to be describing life in general.

You've...never really hung out with stoners, have you? Or people that use hallucinogens? The meditations were exercises in expanding one's consciousness, which hallucinogens certainly do. They were getting blasted, meditating, writing songs. It was all really cool and groovy, but they certainly wouldn't have made THAT music without the drugs. Other music, perhaps.
