Volunteering?

A_Forever 05-02-2009 11:56 PM

Yeah.

Last night there was a silent auction and today there was like lectures happening. I had to help set up.. escort people upstairs.. serve people drinks and help clean up. x.x

I was sort of guilt tripped into it for yesterday and today.

Today, my step-dad came back and was like. "Liz, I have a friend for you." and the secretary walked into my room and said they needed me at the school. I was kind of like, "Ehh." but then my step-dad said, "Your mom and I will pay for the painting. All of it." so I went.

So it wasn't exactly volunteering, in the strictest sense of the word.

I got community service hours for it though ;D

Hraesvelg 05-03-2009 12:43 AM

So it was doubly not-volunteering, since you got two tangible rewards from it, heh.

A_Forever 05-03-2009 12:45 AM

Well.. how else do you get community service hours without volunteering? o-o

Hraesvelg 05-03-2009 12:50 AM

When you volunteer, it generally means to give of your time/effort/money without payment or tangible benefit. Since you are apparently required to perform community service hours (did you knock over a liquor store?), fulfilling that obligation is not volunteering. If, after you have completed your mandated hours, you continue working with some sort of volunteering organization, then you will be volunteering.

I say tangible benefit, because quite frequently some people will say they get a sense of satisfaction from volunteering, which may be beneficial, but it isn't tangible.

^Ehh.

And I did have some fun doing it so I was happy I did it.

I just don't like being so tired. && I totally need a foot massage 8D

I stood up for 13 hours when I went to the Iron Maiden concert. But that was for something I liked, LOL. Not sure if I could do that in school.
