Pretty Princess

This is just something I pondered, but basically the topic is..

Disney princesses: good for little girls, or bad?

I only wonder about this because I spend my entire day babysitting my 4 year old niece, who LOVES Disney princesses. Some people say its good for the girls to look up to these animated heroins. They inspire to fight for what your dreams and what you believe in. But honestly.. is a little girl going to look so deeply into the moral of the story and be like, "Wow.. she didn't want to end up like that, so she went against everything against all odds so she could be with her prince! I'm going to do that too!"
From observation.. this is what my niece sees.
PRINCESS!! She gets people to serve her, people love her, she gets lots of things, shes royalty, she doesn't have to listen to what the lower lives tell her. And yeah.. she's going through a "I'm a princess" phase, which I know isn't bad. All kids go through a royalty phase at one point in their life.

But really.. is this stuff more inspiring, or is it just making them think they're princesses and better than everyone else? Some people look too into it.. and say its horrible and people shouldn't sell Disney princess stuff. But then some think its just Disney's way of making money.
Then again.. it could ultimately lead to the desire of having a glamorous lifestyle.

What do you guys think?

Princesses turn out to become gold diggas! Like, those folks that only mine in GH and never heal or DPS, ZOMG! I hate those people! Truely... I'm watching that show Beauty and Geeks. And there's this "girl" that's like totally the end product of a "princess." She looks blackanese, as chris tucker put it, and she's a babysitter. I forgot her name but she's so "valet" like and airheaded. I have a daughter and love her to death...I'd do anything for her happiness, but i won't cater everything to her like a "princess." She'll need to scrub the toilet and do other housework and carry the same heavy stone i make my boys carry. Equal opportunity!

Did you also notice they never make awesome job barbies? Lol, yeah.. again, I only notice these things because I basically raise my niece(my sister is in prison and the dad fled). But yeah.. I was at an antique auction, they had things like the doctor barbie, air force, sports, etc. Now they're like "Sparkly fairy Barbie!!!"

Barbie no longer has every job in the world D: She obviously got high off of something and goes around riding a pegasus.

Its a hard say really....
But for most children imagination plays a very large part in thier lives. Problem is with Barbie and disney is that thier MILKING A GOLDEN COW with imaginations and not just with princesses. Its very easy to manipulate a child with their imagination and in the end all the businesses are just here for profit.

Sad thing these companies have changed the main stream thought of the lives of princesses and cowboys for example.

Princesses: the Disney/barbie mainstream thought:
Beautiful naturally , destinied to find the prince of her dreams for no apparent reason whatsoever

Princesses in reality in the medieval times:
They were pampered like the mainstream thought allowed but 9 times out of 10 their marriages were forced for political reason. If you were a princess, have fun being in a FORCED MARRIAGE with some random guy you've never met before 20 YEARS OLDER THAN YOU just so the guy's father doesn't invade your homecountry and kill everyone.....

Cowboys: Mainstream thought
Bad@$$ western americans who follow thier own rules and constantly get into gun fights and battles with the native americans. Always gets the girl

Cowboys: reality
You just basically moved cattle from point A to point B to sell the meat most of your life. Technically your almost like a sheperd. The Profession really did not last very long once railroads were established. If you wanted to court a lady your profession was just plain PUTRID hygenically even by standards in that time.

And as for the lack of Great jobs for barbies, their REALLY inspiring girls to be lazy arrogant women when they grow up.... Today, people who act like princesses are loathed (I.e Paris Hilton) But disney and barbie aren't really help stop that...

Well lets see, the two disney princesses I liked were Ariel (Who int he book of hte little mermaid, eric rejected her, and she comitted suicide because of it >_> WTG disney) And Belle from beauty and the beast, who wasn't actually a princess.

Cinderella was okay too I guess, she was in a pretty bad spot. :x But some of the other ones just make me sick. I don't like the whole "BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE.... BUT ONLY TO GET A GUY" ~_~ Guys suck either way D:

Rofl XD Well devoting your life just to get one's attention is stupid and will only get people hurt >_> Since if you have to devote your whole self JUST to get attention, something isn't right either way =p

Then again...

If Barbie were a real woman, she would have the following:

Height: ~7' (7 feet approx.)
Bust: 38-40 inches.
Waist: 18-24 inches.
Hips: 33-35 inches.
Weight: 110 pounds.

and...

Mode of Transportation: On all fours.

Though different websites and articles have different numbers. Some say that it would be around 6 feet, but around 86 pounds.

Barbie terrifies me D:

erm... barbie's figure was based on a blow up doll... u know.. this kinki ones... XD but barbie isnt the "cool" thing anymore... well in Aust anyway.. the popular thing among young girls now are "Bratz", those big head, big eye ugly characters...

back to princess... totally agree with yosei, no kid will understand those "morals", i certainly didnt pick up any myself... its just adults trying to complicate a simple kid's mind..

but i wouldnt say that they're bad either.. i'm sure for some kids u can put those movies up for hrs and they'll just sit there and watch it over and over again.. (although some kids like to watch one particular part over and over again which gets annoying.. -think of my lil couz-)

all kids need imaginations.. as imagination is one of the privilege that only kids can have.. (us older kids can hv imaginations too, but our imagination is often shattered rather quickly coz we learnt something called reality)
