A Guide to Fixing Lag...?

Editing the Registry may harm your computer. Do so at your own risk. If you have absolutely NO idea what is going on here you'll just have to find another way to fix it.

Quote:

This is a guide from the mabinogi forums for disabling " Nagle Algorithm", a program that slows down latency on your computer....in other words it's the lag on your mmorpgs

Here's a tutorial to disable Nagle Algorithm. The following applies to Window XP users with SP1 or later (Possibly works on Vista with SP1 or Hotfix installed).

1) Open "Run" program from the Start Menu <-- Vista users find the accessories bar and click run

2) Type "regedit" into the run window to open up registry editor

3) In the registry editor, navigate to the following folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesT cpipParametersInterfaces

4) Inside the "Interfaces" folder should contain atleast 1 of these {18A9B9F94A...-like folders

5) Inspect each one and look for these 2 files shown in the picture. These 2 files should not contain 0.0.0.0's but something else other than zeros like 813.61.52.182, just not zeros...

6) Right click on the white spot of the registry editor where all the files are listed, and create a new DWORD file.

7) Rename the file (which can also be done by rightclicking on the new DWORD file) to: TcpAckFrequency <-- This is Case Sensitive. If it is already there, skip creating a new one.

Cool We'll be modifying the file's value. Right click on the TcpAckFrequency, and select Modify.

9) In the Value Data bar, replace/enter the number "1" and press OK.

10) Close everything and restart your computer.

Hope it works for you guys ;D

Taken from another forum which took it from another forums. :P Apparently it's supposed to fix lag. .___o Try it out and see if it works.

And as a warning if you have NO idea what's going on... then... better not try to fiddle around with the regedit.

So far I have no lag... except for an occasional jump (which I believe is some glitch >.>). I'll see if it still holds true when I enter something like a KQ with people spamming skills. But normal gameplay is so much smoother I'm scared. D:

Yeah, I'd be really, really wary about editing your registry unless you know what you're doing.

Loveless 01-19-2009 03:47 AM

Yup. But it's doing wonders so far. :3

my lag is because the school restricts us to 10mbps :hulksmash:

OT: does my shield dragon seem a lighter color than yours loveless? o.O

I wonder what the bandwidth threshold is for this being effective. Hmm.

My lag has to do with my graphics card, so don't think that
will fix it.

Loveless 01-19-2009 04:09 AM

I don't know, seems the same to me Krash... o.O

I don't know the details of how this editing works. But it seems to work... so... yay? If something goes wrong I made a back up. :3

The more I'm thinking about it...you lag with 10Mbps!? I can assure you your bandwidth isn't the issue. The fix described might help you, though, since you should be able to send a ton of small packets without a problem.
