I have stuck with my mage for a while now.. he's level 40 but now I'm starting a fighter and her's level 14 now. I wanted some up close battle but at the the same time I still love my mage so wish me luck.

Doesn't hurt to play more than one char. I usually jump around my chars a bit.

Yeah the road gets hard for 40 mages and up. You really have to start enhancing weapons (or buying good ones) and T3 scrolls will be your best friend. Spam "buff plz" to every cleric over 47 that you see.

On the other hand, I had a lot of fun playing with my cleric. I'm just worried that at the later levels (when AOEs become mandatory), that I will become a spamming heal bot. I do like that fact that I can go in higher level places earlier than most, due to the Wolverine-like healing factor clerics wield. Fighters are cool too as they can take a lot of heat. Archers play too much like mages to me, except they have DOTs from the jump.

otherwise you can be like me, stick a license on your wand and start grinding xp
