12/214 of My Maui Pics

These are form my trip to Maui, which I just got back from. It's called the valley island because the mountains on both sides create a huge valley. The middle of the island is really thin, and takes just a few minutes to get from one side to the other. If you drive fast.
And pretty much every field in the valley is used for growing sugar cane.

I have no idea why this one is huge. Sunset from my room:

Bamboo jungle on east side:

Part of the jungle on Maui. The only real jungle area on Maui is on the east side:

Picture of the coast on the north-east side:

View of the ocean from the north-east:

Another picture of the coast:

A field on the way to the east mountain (Haleakala):

View of the rest of the island and Lanai about halfway up (5,000 ft.) Haleakala:

The town north of where we stayed:

View of the island from the top of Haleakala. You can see how short of a distance it is from one side to the other, north to south:

Silversword, a plant only found on that mountain. Pretty badass, so I took a few pictures:

And the crater of Haleakala. You can't see much because the clouds came in. Weather is pretty much unpredictable there. This was at about 10,020 ft.:

There was a really little one by the side of the road... I was so temped to take it. Probably would have gone to jail or something though.

And my camera was dead for the whole west side of the island trip. D: It looks cool over there. Lots of resorts and shopping places.

You didn't bring your charger?

Got the camera in Maui, and we did the whole west side in a day. Not that big... But the camera died like right after we got there.

Pic of the big mountain from the valley floor:

One of the only west side ones I have. Taken with someone else's camera:

'Tis a beautiful place. I stayed for about two weeks in Lahaina. Spent a few of the days over in Hana. If only I could find some sort of way to work and live there. Gas and groceries were expensive as hell, but I think it'd be worth it.
