What's a good video screen capturer?

I don't know what to call it...

Video screen capturer?

Examples of what I'm talking about is Fraps, Camstudios, and Hypercam.

I've only tried Camstudios, and I can't get sound from it...

Are the other ones good?

EDIT: Does the capturer lag when using it while playing a game? Also, is the video quality good?

Fraps is easy to use.

Does the game lag when you use it while playing a game? Is the quality good?

It depends. Some people have trouble using Fraps but the majority isn't. Unless you're planning to prouce extremely high quality videos I'd suggest you use the "half size" option available in Fraps (so instead of recording at full screen resolution, it reduces the size down by half). You can save way more disc space that way and it's not too bad too work with. High quality is great but I don't suggest it unless you're planning to make some professional movies, I guess.

Most of my videos have been recorded using half size option.

Mind you they still take up quite a bit of space.

Edit: AHHH I was typing an edit and I clicked backspace T__T.

Anyway. A bit about hypercam:

Hypercam is good for recording small things. Not short videos, but small things. Things that doesn't take up a whole screen. E.g. my flash game videos, my MS paint video, my FF raffle contest video - all were recorded with hypercam because I didn't need to record the whole screen. Hypercam is epic fail for recording full screen though. I tried it with Fiesta and it made my eyes bleed. Not really sure what happened but it did.

So, hyper cam = good with small things that doesn't required extreme high quality; fraps = ideal for games.

Though I'm not sure about recording sound. I haven't tried that on hypercam and I believe fraps only records sounds from your mic or something. So unless you have a really good mic or your mic can detect sounds from your speakers greatly, I think sound quality wouldn't be all that great for fraps. But, I've never tried properly so it doesn't hurt to give it a go.

hint, if u highlight ure text and backspace it all by accident, Ctrl+Z will redo it for u..........and to stay on topic, i used to make video tutorials and had to run a high quality program for it. it diddnt lag so i think it deserves to be mentioned. ScreenRecorder Gold is a pretty good capture device, but once again like the others said, the vids take up a lot of space.
