I was thinking of making a guild on teva, and this was one of my choice names, if its taken, I can always alter it:

Magic

MAGIC

MagiC

(Y)agic

Magik

magik

magick

Magick

it goes on and on

Probably no one knows if all those names are taken or not. But you can go through the guild list of names and see if they are taken...

It's time-consuming.

The other way would just be to make the guild and see if it lets you.

Yep - make you a list of the ones you like the best and go try to build your guild. Start with the first name on your list and if it is taken, the system will not let you use that name, then move down your list until you hit one that has not been taken.
