question
When people make sigs they seem to cut out there fiesta character
and put it on another back ground. How do u cut out your character so perfectly? |
People generally use the pen tool or lasso tool in Photoshop. It needs some getting used to.
|
Are u using photoshop?
I know in photoshop there's a really cool magnetic lasso tool, where you can guide your pointer around your character, and it will "stick" the selection line on the outlines of your character........ I'm terrible at explaining.. but this page should help http://artist.tizag.com/photoshopTut...plassotool.php go down to Magnetic Lasso Tool.... |
yeah i have been practicing, It must take LOADS of practice to get it like msot ppl do....
|
Magnetic Lasso can be really unweildy though, depending on what you're using it on. I like to use the magnetic lasso on big chunks and then use the polygonal or the normal one on the smaller chunks.

magnetic tool works well for big contrast pictures (like a distintive line between two colours)
if its shadow, dark character + dark background... it doesnt work as well.. you can click on each turning point (esp sharp turning pts) to lock the selection line in place... then fix it up with a brush somehow after.... that's the newb way of doing it XD (i've watched kt done it once and she uses this complicated timeconsuming process, like making a red background or something.. but that's too much trouble for me XD) |
I like using the pen tool.

Back when I was using PS7, I erased everything I didn't want. Worked well than, doesn't work well now.
I use the magnetic lasso tool when I'm lazy* now (note the uneven lines of the Nyanko-sensei's in my sig). I usually don't bother to fix it if it doesn't bother me too much. If it bothers me a lot, then I will fix it. *What do I use when I not lazy? I don't use anything since I always lazy when I do it now. Every time I make a sig that requires me to to do this, I'm get tired if the image is large or involves more than one image. xD I haven't used the pen tool for this kind of thing... I've used it for outlining before. Actually, never even considered using the pen tool for this kind of thing. o__o" /slow |
I used to use filter, tried magnetic lasso, and now I use erasing XD I'm used to pulling out individual hair/mane/etc. and smoothing stuff etc., so I'm patient with cutting out stuff. Not to mention that erasers are the easiest to use and I mess up with anything else LOL |
I use Polygonal lasso, since the magnetic one and Magic Wand cut within the selected area a little bit.
My screens are all really grainy, so I take close up shots then make them 50-80% the original size. Eliminates the problem for me. |
