I think it's because of their tags they have... Ralath has the Mr Squiggle Tag. And some are premium users, so yeah...

BTW, I think this is in the wrong section...

The different colored names indicate the different user group that they have obtained.

Admins are blue
Mods are red
FF event winners are purple
Wiki admins are black
Premium users are the neon green
Site supporters are orange

You can have more than one user group and that allows you to select the color you want within your user groups.
